Queen Nombasa is a true powerhouse in the global real estate industry. From her upbringing in the rural village of e-Cala, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, to her meteoric rise in Dubai’s fast-paced and competitive property market, her journey is a shining testament to vision, determination, and unwavering resilience.
Raised between Boksburg and e-Cala, Queen Nombasa’s fascination with real estate began in her early years. Inspired by the “For Sale” and “Sold” signs of renowned brokerages in her neighborhood, she was drawn to the world of property.
“I suspect this is where the real estate bug first bit me,” she recalls. “And as they say, the rest is history.”
Equipped with a background as a Quantity Surveyor and an MBA in Real Estate, Queen Nombasa laid the groundwork for a career that would take her across borders.
Dubai: The Land of Opportunity
Relocating to Dubai eight years ago, Queen Nombasa identified the city’s vibrant property market as the perfect platform for her ambitions. With its rapid development and growing demand for investments, Dubai was the ideal stage for her expertise.
“This is where the buzz is in real estate,” she explains. “It’s a developing city with projects everywhere and unmatched investment potential.”
However, the transition was not without its challenges. Entering the competitive global market as a woman of color required grit and determination.
“I had to fight for my place at the table,” she says. “I remember leaving my last employer to establish my own company. When I shared my plans, my colleagues laughed. Today, they reach out in disbelief at my success. Overcoming the barriers of race and gender has been one of my toughest but most rewarding battles.”
Throughout her journey, Queen Nombasa has relied on a core set of values and a strong community of support.
“I’ve built a lovely sisterhood over the years, women who remind me that it can be done,” she shares. “I’ve learned to collaborate rather than compete and to unlearn calling setbacks failures.”
Juggling her responsibilities as a mother, wife, and career woman, she highlights the significance of effective planning and prioritizing self-care.
“I don’t try to be a machine,” she says. “Ambition is important, but it should never come at the cost of my peace and sanity. I’ve learned to give time to every aspect of my life because fulfillment comes from balance.”
Building a Legacy Through Mentorship
Queen Nombasa is passionate about using her success to uplift others.
“Sometimes people don’t lack capability, they lack knowledge,” she says. “I’ve reached many milestones thanks to mentors, and now I’m in a position to mentor others. Seeing my team and other women thrive is one of my greatest joys.”
As a trailblazer in her field, Queen Nombasa wants to be remembered as “a woman who conquered against all odds, a trendsetter who created room for others while building her own success.”
While she has already accomplished so much, Queen Nombasa continues to push boundaries. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in real estate, focusing on metrics of success in Gulf and international markets.
